I enlisted in the US Navy in November 1951, attending boot camp and IC electricians’
school in San Diego.
Reported directly aboard the USS Carp SS-338 in 1952 in San Diego Bay.
West-Pac cruise to Japan, Okinawa, and Korea with stops at Pearl Harbor and Chi-
Chi Jima, from September 1952 to April 1953. Our longest patrol was off North Korea
and Vladivostok, Russia supporting South Korean and UN forces in the Sea of Japan
during the Korean War.
In October 1952 became a member of “Domain of the Golden Dragon.”
Qualified in submarines in April 1953.
In January 1954, we swapped the Carp for the USS Tilefish SS-307 and their crew to
the Carp back to Pearl Harbor.
Left the regular Navy near the end of 1954 to attend college.
In 1956, did a tour aboard the USS Trutta SS-451 out of Key West, Florida.
In 1957, did a tour aboard the USS Sea Leopard SS-483 out of Norfolk, Virginia.
Received honorable discharge in 1959 and re-enlisted for another 6 years.
Received a second honorable discharge in 1965, completing 14 years.
Became a crew member of the USS Razorback SS-394 in August 2004.
