Alan Malone joined the navy in 1978 from Holly Grove, Arkansas when he
enlisted as a nuclear electrician's mate. After training, he was selected for
the NROTC program and attended the University of Mississippi. Alan
completed his degree in Engineering and then was selected for the nuclear
power program for the second time. As a nuclear submarine officer, Alan
served on four submarines, the GROTON, the FRANCIS SCOTT KEY, the
PHOENIX and the TENNESSEE twice. He served as the Electrical Officer,
the Communicator, the Assistant Weapons Officer, the Tactical Systems
Officer, the Navigator, and as the Executive Officer of two different
submarines. While serving, Alan also received his Masters Degree in
Operations Management from the University of Arkansas. He reached his
retirement eligibility and he elected to retire as a Commander. He then
returned to Arkansas where he taught NJROTC for eight years before
retiring from teaching as well.
Alan now owns a bowling alley in Heber Springs where he lives with his wife
Wanda of 30 years. They have two children and two grandchildren.
